I need to retain the star ratings that I assign images in Lightroom and Picasa. This is one of the most powerful tools for efficiently sorting images, along with keywords etc. This is one of the key functions that Peter Krogh (the DAM book) calls essential to retain when uploading your organized images, yet it seems to be conspicuously absent from smugmug. Why doesn't smugmug have this powerful ability? Isn't this a glaring omission for professional photographers who want to maintain a properly organized and sortable catalog of images, both online and off?

I am not quite sure what you are asking. Can you explain what you are trying to accomplish? When I download my images they have the stars. If you are looking for a way to group images by rating, the best solution I have found is to create smart galleries in Lightroom using the rules to set the star groupings and then upload from there. – Bradford Benn♦ Feb 5 at 2:16
