I had some question about file size of a picture I took with Camera Awesome. I'm not very knowledgeable about picture quality and image optimization, so it was quite puzzling to see different image file sizes in different places. After taking a picture will Camera Awesome, I went into the gallery(?), opened the picture and clicked on the "i" button. This screen showed the the picture was 2.38MB. When I've exported it to the Camera Roll and opened the iPhone in Windows Explorer, the file size for this picture was 1.97MB. Finally, when I've uploaded the picture to SmugMug from Camera Awesome, the picture in "Camera Awesome Photos" gallery was 945.77 KB.

Can you tell me the reason for discrepancies in the file size and how it impacts the quality of the picture? Is there a way to upload the picture AS IS from Camera Awesome to SmugMug?

Photos taken by Camera Awesome are captured at the highest resolution your device is capable of capturing. Camera Awesome does compress the data for uploading performance. Image quality and pixel data is not changed when this takes place.
