SmugMug Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SmugMug developers and end users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have not been able to figure out why sometimes my admin bar disappears from view when I am logged in. My workaround has been to open up a different browser, or hit refresh many times.

enter image description here

I've had the issue in Firefox and Chrome. I usually pull up IE as the workaround. I just had the issue come up in FF 9 with no extensions, I refreshed the page and it appeared, but sometimes this fails to work. This has been happening for a year or so, so it isn't just the current version.

What browser are you using? Do you have any plugins/extensions that could be blocking JavaScript? Is something removing your cookies (do you have to log back in to get the admin bar back?) – Andrew Maiman Jan 26 '12 at 2:11

Not an answer, but I've seen similar behavior specifically when using my custom URL. If I hit my custom URL it often doesn't show the admin bar, but if I hit smugmug.com, it does. – ahockley Jan 26 '12 at 22:11
@ahockley - When the custom URL doesn't work, but the .smugmug.com URL does, that is a sign that it's a cookie issue - the cookie for your custom domain is not properly established. – jfriend00 Jan 27 '12 at 4:17

This is usually a sign that your browser cookie for SmugMug login status has expired or been deleted. Check your header or footer to see if it shows that you are still logged in. Usually, clearing your browser cookies and logging back in will fix it. Make sure you are allowing 3rd party cookies and not blocking SmugMug cookies in your browser settings. If you are running any privacy software, make sure it is not deleting the SmugMug cookies.
