I have all my photos organized into folders on my computer (Macintosh) and I'd like to sync all these folders to SmugMug and as I add or delete more folders and photographs to my computer SmugMug would stay in sync.

Is there standalone software that will do this for me? Is there a plugin for other software (Lightroom, Aperture, etc) that'll do this?

Lightroom Publish Services is really built for this, but that all depends on if you have Lightroom or Aperture. Also, if you are really just using this for backup or storage, you might want to try Jungledisk, Dropbox, Amazon S3, BackBlaze, or the like. – dpollitt Feb 4 '12 at 5:22
I have a similarly-titled but opposite question here: How can I sync from SmugMug? – mattdm Nov 5 '12 at 1:15

The official SmugMug plugin for Lightroom was recently (January 31, 2012) updated to include this feature:

Your Lightroom library can now be synced with SmugMug as a Publish Collection. It will match up already uploaded photos with those in your Lightroom catalog; however it will not sync captions or other metadata that exists only on SmugMug into the Lightroom photos.

You will need to manually update your copy of the plugin, Lightroom does not automatically update the plugins originally included with the software.
