When I upload files and an error is returned they're often enigmatic results like "wrong bytes received", is there any way to get more information on why an upload failed or what these error results mean?

Great question, and one in which we should translate an internal page we have to our help pages. I'll make sure it happens. – Andy Williams Feb 4 '12 at 1:28
I can say I would very much appreciate better error codes with how often I am uploading from wonky hotel hotspots it is hard to know where the problem is and if I can fix it – Bradford Benn Feb 4 '12 at 2:30
I am working internally with some folks to do 2 things: a. get a list together of what the errors mean and what you can do about them. b. to make the error messages actually more informative. Hopefully we can get that in place soon. – Doc Walker Feb 9 '12 at 19:06
Are these error codes from a specific uploader (HTML, Flash, etc)? Or via the API? – Don MacAskill Feb 9 '12 at 22:53
Error codes returned via the API. This started as a seed question which I was going to remove but it turns out a lot of people voted it up :) – Shizam Feb 10 '12 at 1:51

What would really work well is not having to look up the codes or what's going or anything and just have the solution there.

Right now, we have columns for the image/date time/etc as well as error if there is one. Why not have another column for the error fix? A nice friendly smuggy answer that suggests what can be done. And with the error there too, you can also get feedback on the suggestion with a 'did this help' type of feedback system to even further refine the automated process of finding out specific solutions to specific uploading issues.
