I've been experimenting with posting images I put on Smugmug to my Google+ stream, and frankly, I'm not happy with the results in general. I figure I'd ask the general group: what do you consider as best practices for posting an image to Google+ in a way that doesn't make a copy over on Google, but instead links back to Smugmug?

The way I do it is follows. I open the image which I want to post on Google Plus in light box mode. Copy the link and then paste to g+. But you have to be careful with newly uploaded photos - you have to wait few minutes for the server to process it - because sometimes SmugMug will not show the thumbnail of the image, because it did not process it - it is odd behavior but key. I hope that will help. |

I think you need to consider what you are trying to get out of your Google+ postings. Tomasz is right; using the image link to pull from your SmugMug site is a way to link the two sites. Unfortunately the photos shown in Google+ when posted as a link are half of the size of the photos shown when they are loaded directly to Google+. And using an I experimented with linking to a photo on smug and with uploading directly to g+. Ultimately I went with uploading copies of the photos I wanted to post directly in g+. I believe that gives me a better platform to interact with other people on g+. Photos loaded directly in g+ can be +1'ed, and comments can be entered there. Comments entered on a photo or a post will pop that post back to the top. |
