Requisite Meta Info:

I'm running Camera Awesome v1.0.2 on the 4S.

The Meat

My typical Camera Awesome workflow is to take a photo, edit, then share to Smugmug. I have CA configured to cross-post to both Facebook and Twitter. What I've found is that while the sharing to my Smugmug gallery works reliably every time, it's a crap shoot whether or not the cross-posting happens correctly. Sometimes it'll only cross-post to Twitter, sometimes only to Facebook, but rarely does the cross-posting happen correctly to both destinations. Regardless of where the photo ends up being posted, the correct "shared" icons for Smugmug, Twitter, and Facebook always show up on the photo when viewing the image post-share.

This brings me to my questions:

  1. Is the cross-posting done by the app itself or is it performed by a process running on the Smugmug servers?
  2. Is this a known issue with CA? If so, is there anything I can do to make the cross-posting functionality more reliable?

(I'm assuming that CA-related questions are on-topic here. There's only one other question tagged with camera-awesome and that question didn't get closed, so I'm using that as precedent.)

I emailed help@smugmug.com about this, and got the following reply. It actually does sound like this is a known issue:

Right now, the cross posting is not working completely. We're working on a fix for that, and you should see improvements over the next week or two.

I just wanted to post this for others who might be wondering about this functionality.

@tedder42 - yep, I know the drill...I'm very active over on Serverfault, one of the "main three" Stackexchange sites. You have to wait at least a day (if not longer) to accept your own answer. So I'll just come back tomorrow and take care of that. – ErikA Mar 10 '12 at 4:49

Cross posting is not done by the app itself, it's done by SmugMug who handles the submissions to the various sites. Posts not showing up is not currently a known issue, so please do get in touch with SmugMug Support Heroes who can help you out. http://help.smugmug.com
