I took a bunch of photos at an event and many people asked me for copies. I want to be able to put the photos into albums, send the link to the attendees, and then have them be able to select the photos they want, save them onto their own computer to print if they like. I'm not charging anything, and I don't want to have to respond to a bunch of email requests for the files, so I'm not sure how this should work.

You can do this with a SmugMug account. You can share galleries with the attendees by using our email share feature, please see this help page: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93253 Each attendee can download photos, once you have set the minimum dislpay size to Original.
