I am new to this whole website design thing, and really would like to step my site up a notch, but I can't seem to find any simple way to get a CSS code for a more interesting and professional look for my page. Can anyone help with this?

That's a really broad question. You can find some commonly asked customization questions answered in our customization faq. Another thing that might interest you is the tutorial for a homepage slideshow with a separate galleries page. Also check out this thread for basics to get you started on customization.
