I want the fx turned off. I think they are off. But when I'm taking a picture, I see a gold "fx blue pill" at the top of the screen which I think indicates that that preset is selected. but my pictures don't appear to have that preset applied. This is confusing. Is there a way turn this off?

You can turn off the automatic Effects in Camera Awesome by going to the camera mode, and touching the little arrow at the top of the screen. Touch the FX option, and then scroll over to find the highlighted effect. Simply touch the highlighted effect to de-select it, and that will disable the automatic effect :-)
