Can anyone explain the logic behind what thumbnails get shown for categories and sub-categories when the galleries under those categories are protected? I know protected galleries have the "lock symbol" thumbnail unless you specify a featured photo, but I can't determine what logic is used when some of the protected galleries in a category have thumbnails.

I have some categories that show a thumbnail and some that don't, even though in both cases they have a mixed set of protected galleries in which some have featured photos and some do not.

Categories and sub-categories take the thumbnail from the gallery or sub-category in the # 1 position. ie. top left position You can pick which gallery is the source using the arrange galleries to move them to the #1 position. The feature photo for the gallery can be set using the instructions here: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93295

Thanks for the information. For some reason I hadn't made the connection that it was simply the first gallery in the category. – jsmarble Jan 26 '12 at 22:55
