Using one of the SmugMug affiliated printshops would be an excellent choice if you would require a guided process.
However, a professional would use software like Adobe InDesign to achieve a high degree of freedom in the design and layout of the book. Here is an example of a book my girlfriend made recently like that. By incident she had it printed with Blurb, which happens to be one of the mentioned affiliates. They will happily print your InDesign file too :) The quality was excellent, options (like paper quality) plentiful and actual delivery (printing included) was like 7-8 days to Europe.
If you are new to this, and you sound like you are, I would recommend the former approach. Should it somehow not satisfy your expectations, get a book on InDesign first :)
