My prints are always dark. I understand that they are backlight on the computer screen and they look brighter than when they are printed on an opaque paper, however, I would love a print adjustment for brightness.

You can find general suggestions on the SmugMug 'too dark' help article. For specific assistance, email the HelpDesk with links to a couple of photos for us to look at.

The other question is what are you using to soft proof your images? Is it just looking at them on screen or do you have a soft proofing process. This can change the results quite a bit. The other large thing is also having a properly calibrated monitor. Making those few changes I have been able to get accurate prints for my orders.
