SmugMug Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SmugMug developers and end users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have just joined Smugmug and I am thinking about getting the Pro account but I am wondering if It is really worth it. Just wanted some feedback from fellow Photogs that have had success with the site. How many sales did you have last month?(If you dont mind me asking) I would be happy with just a couple of my own. I have had my photography on numerous sites throughout the years and even tried my own site with not much avail. Thank you in advance! :)

This is a Q&A site, and this is really just a "I'd like to have a discussion about this" question. Try to ask a specific, answerable question! – dpollitt Aug 24 '12 at 3:05

I had a similar 'Field of Dreams' view of Smugmug when I started as well. My advice is basically this: Smugmug Pro is a great place to support your photography business, but a Pro account won't create a photography business. It is simply a component of the business; one of the tools.

Simply offering nice photos on a website will not drive huge sales. In fact, you can consider yourself lucky if you sell enough to pay back the cost of the Smugmug account. The world is not waiting to buy your photos, but your customers very well could be. In other words, create a photography business first, and leverage Smugmug to enhance that business.

You could check out the Mind Your Own Business forum on Dgrin. That's a good place talk about business among your peers.

Thank you! :) I had looked around on the forum but had not quite found a place to pose the question and did not want to butt into someones conversation that pertained to something else. – Megan Aug 8 '12 at 12:48
You're welcome. If you can't find what you're looking for, you could always just start a new thread to ask your questions in. :) – Sebastian Aug 8 '12 at 13:17
