Given that SmugMug will resize images for various display sizes and that it's possible to limit the largest size shown to vistors (via the gallery settings), is there any reason why a photographer wouldn't want to upload images at high/full resolution?

Some reasons why this might not be the best idea
For the most part, I upload the largest available as a type of extra backup in addition to my existing DR strategies. |

In addition to the reasons given by dpolitt, there's also the security aspect. You could accidentally set the maximum viewing size for a gallery to Original one day, and your customers will be able to grab your full-sized originals until you notice and correct it. If you're not using a Quick Settings template to set the maximum viewing size of new galleries, you may forget to update it when you create a new gallery. The default maximum size is Original. |
