SmugMug Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SmugMug developers and end users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Although the title seems the same, I have the opposite question to How can I keep photos on my computer in sync with photos on smugmug?

That person would like changes local folders to automatically appear in SmugMug. I'd like to do the opposite: make SmugMug be my primary, authoritative store (where I can upload to from the field or from phone apps or whatever), and have an automatic sync to my own system.

Is there an easy (or moderately easy; I can code if necessary) solution for this?

Particularly, I'd like to retain metadata like titles and keywords, not just the JPGs. And, I'm on Linux, so Lightroom-based solutions are uninteresting to me.

nothing on the hacks and apps list do what you need? help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/… – cabbey Nov 9 '12 at 11:16
@cabbey — I don't think so. smugget looks most promising, but full sync is on the todo list, not a current feature. – mattdm Nov 9 '12 at 12:42

You can take a look at Star Explorer. It allows you to download a gallery, a whole category or your whole site. You can specify what to do if there's already a local copy. So you could set it to skip any photos that you already previously downloaded. Here's a screenshot of the download dialog.

Captions and keywords are also included in the photos downloaded.

Doesn't work on Linux, but may be useful to Windows users. – mattdm Nov 12 '12 at 15:07
