SmugMug Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for SmugMug developers and end users. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Is there anyway to create an index of gallery images that a viewer can scan to find a picture quickly? If not this would be immensely helpful in the scientific community. My alternative is to make such an index on a webpage and then link to pictures on SmugMug, but if I could set of galleries with indexes within them in SmugMug it would be much better.

A gallery can be viewed in different styles. If you'd like to view just the thumbnails for a gallery, check out the thumbnails style. If the gallery is set to "viewer controllable" style, you can use the style button in the gallery to change the gallery style. Visitors can do the same to change the default style in their browser.

In thumbnails style, there's also a checkbox to view all thumbnails on one page.

Of course, you can also set a specific gallery style so that visitors cannot choose a different one. You can do that in the gallery settings > look&feel section.
