Increase navbar and text size

Question

I would like to space the 'about me', 'galleries' and search box, as well as increase their size in the navbar. I tried adjusting the size of the navbar with padding, but this did not do anything.
How can I adjust my navbar?

I found that the preview within advanced customization was not showing the changes, but if I updated the site, and checked my homepage it would adjust it. Just odd that the change was not apparent in the preview window.
