Don't crop or resize at all. Upload all of the original pixels, this way you have the filesize to be able to get the largest prints available, and the largest variety of sizes (not limiting to 8.5x11). Unfortunately, Adobe don't give us an easy way to achieve this. But there is a solution...
Delete the published collection from LR and select 'Leave on SmugMug'
Resync the hierarchy and the gallery will be recreated
Resync the images for that gallery and you will now be given the option between the raw and the edited file as the file to associate.
