Extra tip on this. The photo that you feature does not need to stay in that Gallery. You can move it to another gallery after you feature it but it stays as the Featured Thumbnail for the Gallery. You can use this to create a custom Password Protected Gallery Thumbnail or any other use you can think of.

That depends on the gallery style you use. Thumbnails gallery style only shows a portion for longer captions below each thumbnail. I don't think that can be customized to show the full caption as captions on SmugMug can be up to 65,000 characters and that would not fit with the layout of the thumbnails style.
