Photographer, tech head, and extreme sport enthusiast.

I shoot weddings professionally, and landscapes for fun. My favorite venues are half way up a 14k mountain, Ontario in Fall, and the Mediterranean at sunset.

I love talking technology, new equipment, and Canon lenses.

comment Besides selling - what are differences between pro and power accounts?
Of course, only pros would want to use a lab like Bay Photo - hehe :)

comment I am currently doing self fulfillment, what are the main advantages of handing this off to SmugMug?
Allowing yourself to focus on photography is the main advantage. Some call this "getting your life back" :)

I want to vote this up twice, great question Shizam.

comment How can I keep SmugMug in sync with photos on my computer?
Lightroom Publish Services is really built for this, but that all depends on if you have Lightroom or Aperture. Also, if you are really just using this for backup or storage, you might want to try Jungledisk, Dropbox, Amazon S3, BackBlaze, or the like.

comment Will Smugmug continue supporting YUI2, even though they now have YUI3?
We can continue to discuss in meta or chat if you want, but basically less new tags is better, and simply "yui" is probably the best. Having all 3 is overkill. More info: goo.gl/39qDq Sorry you feel I am the "question police", I don't think me editing tags is draconian, I am trying to help the site. "If you are not comfortable with the idea of your contributions being collaboratively edited by other trusted users, this may not be the site for you." per our FAQ goo.gl/XPVpf I hear you on the "legit" question, I think the meta discussion above will flesh out if this is on topic.

comment Will Smugmug continue supporting YUI2, even though they now have YUI3?
So you are using this site as a conduit to ask questions of the SmugMug team now? Have you tried emailing them? I don't think that the 3 tags for "yui, yui2, yui3" are irrelevant, I think they are unnecessary. Further - at least in the preliminary discussions on meta, employees of SmugMug have suggested that questions only they can answer should be considered off topic. See meta.smugmug.stackexchange.com/a/9/62 One question has already been closed based on this - smugmug.stackexchange.com/questions/1/…

comment How can I make a gallery (not my homepage) a full screen slideshow?
I have never done it, but I would assume you just create an HTML only page and insert in your JFriend script into that page. Have you tried that?

comment Can I track user purchases as a power user?
@CodyBennett - Yes that doesn't really get into this detail. It amazes me that a "power" user isn't significant enough to be notified at all when someone buys a print! Sure, I'm not a pro and don't need tons of statements on it, but at least letting me know how awesome it is that someone bought something from me would really make sense. I get a notification when someone comments, but not pays money to show me how much they like my work?!

comment When to use the top or bottom JavaScript section of the Advanced Site-wide Customization?
Yes this is pretty vague and ambiguous. Can you give examples to illustrate when it makes sense one way or another? Where does the bottom javascript section actually fall in the page layout?

comment How do I change number of thumbnails per row?
While that is true, you can customize the CSS via an option such as this: dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=206847

comment How do I make my homepage slideshow stretch to fit the page?
Jfriend has the "option" to stretch, it doesn't automatically? Right? I guess it might default to stretchy true, i'm not sure. It is a parameter such as stretchy: "true",. Also, I didn't know about the FastLine option, thanks!

@DaveVeffer - I have setup a meta discussion for this conversation to continue. Please feel free to edit it or add to it as you feel necessary: meta.smugmug.stackexchange.com/questions/25/…

comment How do I see the photos that have been thumbed as favorites?
If you are using any of the book options that are built into SmugMug, I think you can just use the cart functionality as a better option then the thumbs.

@jfriend00 - Fair enough. Both are addressed in this answer at this point. It is moot.

comment Do SmugMug galleries & slideshows work on iOS devices that don't support Flash?
Ok, I think I was wrong about the built in homepage slideshows working in iOS. I had JFriend running already during my test run. If anyone sees errors above, please let me know or edit it.

comment Do SmugMug galleries & slideshows work on iOS devices that don't support Flash?
@jfriend00 - Hi John. I know what the JFriend option is. I also describe it in my answer posted to this question. As the original question was obviously asking about the built in slideshow tool, answering while only responding about the JFriend option is not answering the real question asked. cmason has modified his answer now to include both points. BTW- thanks for all of the awesome smug goodies you have provided!

I would suggest adding this info in the EXIF data no matter where you post!

What about if you use the standard one that has been built in for a bit now? I don't believe that is the same as the classic JFriend one. I would guess that the feature comparison chart is really talking about the built in one, not the JFriend HTML5.

Wouldn't this fit better over on the graphic design or photograhy stack exchange? What does this really have to do with SmugMug? Sorry Larry I'm not singling out you, just trying to help the site grow!
